Detailed Itinerary – 1 Day Ngorongoro Crater Safari
Day 1: Arusha/Moshi – Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha/Moshi
📍 Distance: Approx. 190 km from Arusha (3.5–4 hrs drive each way)
🚙 Activity:
Early in the morning, your professional safari driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. You will drive through the scenic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley and the lush highlands of Karatu, before arriving at the entrance gate of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
After a brief registration, you will descend 600 meters to the crater floor for a full-day game drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest unbroken caldera, teeming with wildlife including lions, elephants, zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, hippos, and more than 500 species of birds. It’s one of the few places in Africa where you can spot all of the Big Five in a single day.
At midday, you will enjoy a packed picnic lunch at the hippo pool picnic site while watching wildlife nearby. After lunch, the safari continues until late afternoon, when you will ascend from the crater and start your journey back to Arusha or Moshi, arriving in the evening.
