📍 Distance: ~120 km (2-hour drive)
🚙 Activity: Full-day game drive in Tarangire National Park
🍽 Meals: Lunch & Dinner
The journey begins with a pickup from Arusha early in the morning. After a briefing on the safari, the drive to Tarangire National Park begins, passing through local villages and scenic landscapes. Upon arrival, the safari experience starts with a game drive through the park’s vast plains, home to one of the largest elephant populations in Africa. Large herds of zebras, wildebeest, and buffalo roam the park, while predators such as lions and leopards can often be spotted resting in the shade or hunting.
The Tarangire River, a lifeline for wildlife during the dry season, attracts a variety of animals, including giraffes, warthogs, and numerous bird species. A stop for a picnic lunch allows time to enjoy the surroundings and observe wildlife at one of the park’s designated rest areas.
The game drive continues through different parts of the park, offering a chance to explore unique landscapes, from acacia woodlands to open savannahs. Later in the afternoon, the journey proceeds toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where accommodation for the night is located. After check-in, there is time to relax and enjoy the views before dinner is served at the lodge or tented camp.
📍 Distance: ~190 km (4-hour drive)
🚙 Activity: Full-day game drive in Ngorongoro Crater
🍽 Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
The day begins with an early breakfast before heading to the entrance of Ngorongoro Crater. The descent into the crater offers breathtaking views of the vast landscape below. The crater floor is home to over 25,000 animals, including elephants, buffalo, and an abundance of antelope species. The open grasslands provide a prime hunting ground for lions, while spotted hyenas and jackals are often seen scavenging nearby.
A visit to the central soda lake offers a chance to see flocks of flamingos, pelicans, and other water birds. The area around the lake also attracts hippos, which can be seen partially submerged in the water to keep cool during the day. Driving through the forests at the edge of the crater increases the chances of spotting leopards resting on tree branches.
A picnic lunch is enjoyed at a scenic location within the crater before the journey back to the rim begins. As the vehicle ascends, there is one final opportunity to take in the stunning views of the crater before leaving the conservation area. The drive back to Arusha offers time to reflect on the incredible experiences of the past two days. Arrival in Arusha is expected in the late afternoon or early evening, where drop-off is arranged at the hotel or airport.
