🚙 Activity: Drive from Moshi to Marangu Gate
🍽 Meals: None
You’ll begin your adventure with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, where you’ll be transferred to the Marangu Gate. This is the official starting point for the Marangu Route treks, and it’s here that your 1-day short trek begins.
Upon arrival at Marangu Gate, your guide will provide a briefing and ensure that you have all the necessary gear for the trek. After this, you will start your hike.
Trek from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
📍 Distance: 12 km (4-5 hours)
🚙 Activity: Trek through Kilimanjaro’s rainforest
🍽 Meals: Lunch on the trail
The trek begins with a scenic journey through Kilimanjaro’s lush rainforest. The first section of the trail is easy to moderate, with gradual inclines that will help you warm up for the hike. As you walk through the dense forest, your guide will point out fascinating plant species, and you may even spot monkeys, birds, and other wildlife along the way.
The rainforest provides a rich environment for biodiversity, and the views of Kilimanjaro towering above you are nothing short of spectacular.
You’ll reach Mandara Hut after approximately 4-5 hours of trekking. While you won’t reach the summit, the views of the mountain and surrounding areas will give you a taste of what it’s like to trek on Kilimanjaro.
